MG 17 gun

MG17
Entretien des MG17 d'un Fw190The MG 17 was a machine-gun which equipped Fw190 to the A-6 version. The 2 machine-guns were assembled in the engine cowlings between the cockpit and the engine (2 others in the wing roots on Fw190A-0 and A-1 and the version "export" Aa3 delivered to Turkey). The shooting was carried out through circle of the propeller using a mechanism of synchronization. This weapon was developed by the Rheinmetall-Borsig company in 1934. The percussionMG17 sur Fw190 and rearmament were carried out either mechanically or using an electropneumatic unit. The provisioning of the weapon was made with the assistance a metal coil on which the ammunition were assembled. The weapon had a gauge of 7,9 mm, a 1078 mm length and a weight of 10,2 kg. The rate of shooting of the MG 17 is 1180 coups/minute and the initial speed of the projectiles is of 905 m/s.

MG 131 gun
MG131 de bombardier
The heavy machine gun MG131 replaced the MG17 starting from Fw190A-7, it will be also the standard nose weapon on the D-9 version and its variant. MG131 sur Fw190A-0 ou A-1This machine-gun was developed by the Rheinmetall-Borsig firm in 1938. Rearmament is also carried mechanically or electropneumatic, on the other hand, the percussion is electric. The weapon had a gauge of 13 mm, the cartridges are also brought to the weapon by a metal coil. Each cartridge weight 72 g, the ball alone weighs 34 g .The weight of a MG131 is 20,5 kg, the length of 1168 cm the rate of shooting is 930 shoot/mn and the initial speed of the projectiles is of 750 m/s.

MG-FF gun
MG-FF d'aile sur Fw190A
récupération des douilles de MG-FF après une missionMG-FF d'aile sur Fw190AThis gun of 20 mm, developed by Oerlikon-Bekker, was manufactured in great number for Wehrmacht in 1935 (for the panzer Mk2 for example). It was already regarded as obsolete at the beginning of the conflict. Nevertheless, the importance of the stock of weapons and ammunition available to encouraged engineers de Focke-Wulf to use it as arms with not synchronized wing drawing outside the field from the propeller. This solution made it possible to increase with less expenses the fire power of Fw190 as of the A-1 version, and this gun was assembled until are replacement by MG151/20 on Fw190A-6. Rearmament is either mechanical or electropneumatic for the last models. The weapon weighs 26,3kg and is 1338 mm long, the rate of shooting is of 540 shots/min with an initial speed of 700m/s. A complete shell weighs 202g for 134g projectile.

MG 151 & MG 151/20 gun
MG151/20
gun heavy machine gun MG151 was developed by Mauser in 1935. It was of a gauge of 15 Misters gun MG151/20 is only one evolution developed in 1937. Put aside the gauge, the two weapons are identical. The percussion and rearmament are respectively electropneumatic or any tire. The gun MG 151/20 was assembled in the wing roots of Fw190 starting from the A-2Montage d'un MG151/20 d'aile sur Fw190Aversion associated with a mechanism with synchronization then goes up from there standard in the wings outside the field of the propeller starting from the version A-6. This weapon weighs 42,5 kg with a length of 1710 Misters a MG 151/20 shell weighs 220 G of which 115g projectile. The initial speed of the projectiles was of 790 m/s. the rate of shooting oscillated between 780-800 coups/minute and dropped with 550-750 coups/minute with synchronization. These guns were also installed per pairs in gondoles under the wings to increase the fire power against the allied bombers. The bands of shell was generally mixed with shells traceurs/perforants and explosives. This method of mixing, moreover taken again by the allies is always of use nowadays. It makes it possible to obtain devastators effects with a well grouped gust of some shells.

MK 108 gun
MK108 de 30mmIn 1942, the Rheinmetall-Borsig firm proposed another gun of 30mm, the MK 108. Of a weight of 58 kg and a length of 1057mm, this new weapon reduced considerably the disadvantages of the MK 103 and made it possible to consider a permanent installation on the hunters single-engined aircraft. The order and the percussion were electric, electropneumatic rearmament. A shell for MK 108 weighs 480g including 330 for the projectile, which made it possible to carry more shell. The projectiles had an initial speed of 520m/s and was drawn at rate 660 shots/min. Rate was later carried 850 shots/min in an improved version. Lowest initial speed decreased carried and precision, and obliged the hunters to draw more closely. But this weapon also was frightening for the boxes of allied bombers. The MK 108 was assembled in the wings out of the field of the propeller or in the axis through engine on Fw190D-10 and beyond.
